I heard the news earlier today. His Painted,Tainted Rose album was one of the early LPs to find it's way into our home. A song on that album called Ramona was a particular favorite of my grandmother. I always thought his "Daddy's Little Girl" was the definitive father/daughter song for wedding receptions, even better than the Mills Brothers.
Legendery Philly DJ and television personality Jerry Blavat had dinner with Al Martino and his wife Monday night and was quoted today as saying, "He was the last of the show business legends. There's nobody else."

I Remember...
My mom and dad were big fans of Al Martino - they especially liked Spanish Eyes. It was a pretty rich with talent neighborhood that Al Martino and many other musicians came from in South Philly.
